Can I use a Visa gift card for international on line purchases?

Question

I have a Visa Gift Card that was purchased at Wal-Mart ($100.00). I was wanting to use it for an online purchase that is overseas (Netherlands), but it says for use in U.S. only.

Can I use this card for international purchases?

From Visa's own web site, reproduced below, the card cannot be used for international purchases:

Question:  Can I use my Visa Gift card outside of the United States?

Answer:  If your gift card states "Valid only in the United States" on the front, your provider has issued a Domestic Use Only card. Although your gift card will not be accepted at locations outside of the United States, it's welcome at millions of locations within the United States where Visa debit cards are accepted.
