  1. Although you sometimes see "any phone" being described as fully compatible with Magic Jack, that does not refer to cell phones (which must be set up to be able to work by a cellular phone company somewhere).  They mean it can be an old leftover analog wired phone you may have already have in your house.  Magic Jack doesn't need a special type of (digital) phone to work.  For example, Skype phones must be Skype-compatible - an ordinary analog phone wouldn't work.

Since the Magic Jack provides a female RJ-11 connector, you do need a phone (or wire from a phone) that will have an RJ-11 male connector to plug into it.  Cell phones don't use these.  Most ordinary home phones do.

For a good primer on the Magic Jack, I'd suggest you go visit this site:

There is a good primer there along with plenty of helpful tips, links to Magic Jack discount coupon codes and installation suggestions also.

    Good Luck!

  2. The MagicJack is an alternative to your land (house) line, not your cell phone (although it'd be great if someone offered the same deal for a cell phone).

I just got one myself and I saved myself $70/month!  Now I only pay $20/YEAR!  That's almost unheard of.  Vonage and Comcast couldn't even come close to MagicJack's magic price. :)

There's a few video reviews on this site if you're interested in replacing your expensive house phone line:
