I have a power supply with a frayed cord and a transformer with all the same input and output specs. Are they compatible?

  1. If all the specs are the same, you should be able to.  But a power supply usually has more circuitry for filtering and such and typically puts out DC voltage.  A transformer usually just puts out an AC voltage.  Double check and make sure that both put out the same voltage and both put out the same as far as AC or DC goes.  If the currents also match you're good to go.
