  1. Yes, as long as it is your primary tuning source - meaning your signal (antenna, satellite, or cable) is going directly to the dvd recorder through coaxial connection - and as long as the recorder has an ATSC tuner.  In that case - the TV would not require a digital tuner since you're not using the tuner in the TV anyway - you're tuning them on the recorder.
