I want to cut out the piece that used to go to the tub (I removed it) and run it straight up through the wall (where it goes anyway) is rubber hose (with clamps of course) appropriate to use? it would be much easier since it will be a tight fit and difficult to line up.

  1. Vents in a sewer system, enable sewer gas(methane gas) to vent safely away from your home.  Non code approved materials will fail eventually, putting you at risk of an explosion.  You might think plumbers don't do anything but clean out sewers, but we protect the public from many harmfull situations.

  2. This is not ideal for a couple reasons.  Sewer gasses are caustic and smell horrible.  If your hose fell below the roof line, it would put that smell and all the moisture into your attic space.  This will create stinky attic and mold.  Secondly, you can use the roof jack to clean out a clogged drain... if you use a hose, you are eliminating your ability to unclog the drain.  This becomes very important if you do not have a foundation clean-out.  I recommend that you leave it alone, and if you really need to reroute it, you can do so above the ceiling line and then back out thru the roof line.  Bottom line is that using a hose will eventually cause you more headaches than you will want to have.

  3. you could use it ,but definitely not up to code .

  4. it isn't up to code, but you can do it..  it's just a vent and if your not planning on selling anytime soon, nothing to worry about.

  5. I'm not a plumber, but I'd say that is not up to code
