Longwave signals don't make it that far . ..sorry.

Shortwave signals do go the distance , and the BBC world service is the BBC's external service.

BBC4 is however a local service , so the programs wont be played on BBC world service.

Your only choice outside the country is from your satelite tv service provider or online from the BBC site.

High quality shortwave radios can be bought through better communications equipment outlets.

Yes and no...

The signal is on Longwave on 198khz however the signal to be listenable would require great weather within about 200 miles of you (as a frequency this low will pick up storms hundreds of miles away) and a killer antenna near the east coast....

Neither of which will bring a great signal.. but shortwave/longwave radios are available at ccradio among other places...

The only thing on radio in the US is the BBC world service on Shortwave and the sat radio people play BBC 1 and BBC worldwide on their sats (subscription required)

But a cheaper alternative is just the internet.... BBC streams all of it's stations over the internet for worldwide listeners.
