I have a new 25 horse motor with a short shaft. I am looking at buying a new boat but the model only comes with a 20" transom. If I were to get a boat with a 20" transom but with a "tunnel" would I be able to use my short shaft motor with this setup?

  1. absolutely not you have to use the u joint and connect to the halll motor witch will connect it to the anchor will will help you not to sink

  2. The boat dealer will advise on this, you can offer the outboard motor up to the transom and you will be able to tell yourself. The measurements should tell you anyway. You do not say how the motor will be mounted, or what controls you are connecting up to it ,if any. Some transoms have a cutaway for this very purpose.A tunnel is normally for a shaft driven configuration, but some drives, like the volvo sail drive and s drive ,do fit through a hole in the hull.
