Question:

Can I use a sink that's different from my current plumbing?

I'm buying a house this week (closing is on Tuesday) and the main bathroom is in need of a little facelift. The current sink needs to be replaced because it has some rust or rot or... whatever happens to sinks.

My ex-husband works at a hotel, and they've recently done some re-modeling in their bathrooms. As a result, there are a number of counter/sinks - I'm not sure what they're called, but it's where the counter and the sink are all one piece - Anyway, I can get one of their old sinks for very cheap (maybe free), but my question is...

The sinks from the hotel are molded on the left side, and the sink in the vanity at the house is on the right. will it be possible to run the plumbing to the opposite side of the vanity? Is there a fairly simple fix?

Thanks!

  1. You can do it. I have remodeled 2 bathrooms and it's alot of work but not impossible. Just rip out the old one and take some measurements. I used the askmehelpdesk and the experts there walked me right through it.

  2. My honest advice is, don't try to do it yourself, it's not worth it.  There are alots of things involve in replacing the sink than you might think.  First of all, if your faucet is mount on your sink then it's not just the sink you have to remove and replace but now you're dealing with faucet and valves and drain.....The best thing to do is, go to Home Depot, buy another sink ( it's about $30) and hire a knowledgable plumber and let him do it, it"ll be cheaper in the long run.
