Can I use a slatted bed base with a metal bed frame?

I have a twin instamatic metal bed frame. Could I buy a slatted bed base (wooden) from ikea to use instead of buying a box spring??

Your mattress needs full support under it like a box spring. Otherwise, it will develop  dips in between the slats over time. You could actually ruin your mattress by doing this. The only alternative to a box spring would be to s***w sheets of 1/2" plywood on top of the slats to form one smooth solid surface for the mattress to be on.
