I have an old frame that I need to remove the bottom bracket from. The lockring is hexagonal, and I don't have a spanner large enough to remove it. Also, I need to remove the right hand fixed cup. Can I just put these in a vice and turn the entre frame to loosen them?

  1. It is worth a try.

  2. Can be done. Done it meself and the frame acts as a good lever to loosen the cups.

  3. Not got a pipe wrench, for the hex nut?

As for the cup,has it got holes in it? If so,I usually knock the cup round with a drift and hammer. Or 4" nail if no drift.

I assume you have taken off the right hand crank?

  4. Yes, if you can get a grip with the vice, and remember left hand thread. right side.

  5. This kinda talks freaking me out!!
