Can I use a webcam to take still pictures?

I am thinking of getting a webcam to take still pictures to save on my laptop. I don't want to broadcast pictures as I take them, just save them. I want to know if this is something I can do, before I actually go and buy a cam!

  1. That will depend on the web cam. However, web cams are generally low resolution, so if you're looking for something for taking general usage photos, a web cam isn't the best option.

  2. Yeah you can do that on most webcams but maybe you should read the packet to make sure because some of the really cheap ones might not take stills.

  3. yes most web cams probably can take stills unless they are really cheap

i recommend logtech web cams, they have a good quality and most take stills

  4. Yes. Even in Windows Movie Maker if you click quickly enough (from the way you're asking this question it's pretty obvious you use Windows).

  5. yeah u can..

  6. depends on the webcam , some takestills others dont

  7. All webcams take single frame shots. It's called a capture and they are stored in My Documents > Pictures

just to let you know, they're not the *best* quality...

  9. You can, depending on software and such, but the quality is rubbish.
