  1. I would not use a window unit.

They do sell AC units that are freestanding, that is, that you don't mount in a window. I think that one of those would be your best bet. I saw them at our local Wal-mart earlier this summer, but they sell out fast. You could ask them if they still have one or could order one for you.

Also...check at your building supply center (Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.)

Mind you... ACs are seasonal items so you will have to get a move on if you expect to find one.

  2. Get a portable AC.

Your room don't need window but need small vent opening like dryer vent.

  3. it will work, but the heat coming off the back that usually is vented from the part hanging out the window will warm things up

  4. What you might need is a de-humidifyer. They are also used for producing clean drinking water by passing the air past a cooling coil in order to condense the water out of it. This is an expensive item and it may make the place hotter but dryer.

  5. No, it has to be vented, you do not want to be breathing that air.

  6. it will get even hotter.

the part that goes outside the window rejects both the heat absorbed from the room plus the heat put off by the compressor motor.

  7. it is illegal to not have windows in a room that someone lives in.  that being said, what good will it do to have a window A/C, WITHOUT A WINDOW?
