Can I use a wireless router alongside a wired DSL?

I currently connect with an AOL DSL modem, and would like to go wireless, is it possible for my wireless router to be used alongside my wired DSL?

My wireless router (Buffalo AirStation TurboG) is currently connected to my computer via an ethernet cable, but is in noway whatsoever connected to the wired DSL due to my phone line being located too far away.

My aim is to obtain as many details as possible from the wireless router (should it work) to get my PS3 online.

Any ideas? Many thanks!

  1. The DSL modem will need to attach to the router and then your computer and your modem will need to be in bridge mode.  Depending on what protocol you use, you may need to leave everything off for a couple hours to release the MAC address from the ISP's router (DHCP) or just configure your router with your username/password (PPPoE)  Once that is done, your PS3 will be able to connect wirelessly.

  2. Yes it is.

What you would do is plug the cable from the DSL modem into the router than run the cable from the first port on the router to the computer. And if the modem is too far away just bring the router to the modem, and get either a pci wireless card for your computer or they make usb ones. And for the ps3, it has a built in wireless so you should just test your connection form the ps3 and it should find your network, you will just have to type in your wep or wpa key (which ever you have setup on the network). You can also take a look at the directions that came with your router.
