I have an older series 2 TiVo box and since it holds only 40 hours, wondered that if in the USB port in the back could be used to store extra hours of TV recordings. Also, if you can yse an external hard drive, can you transport your recordings to other TiVo boxes.

  1. I don't think so, but the hard drives on a Tivo are just regular, you can just go buy a bigger hard drive to put into the tivo.

Tivo runs on Linux, and you can find the stuff you need online to flash the new drive so it works in a Tivo.

  2. The USB port only works for USB network or wireless network adapters. Weaknees sells upgrade kits with prepared drives for Tivos based on the exact model of Tivo.

You'll have to take the tivo apart but the instructions should be thorough. (The thing with using a generic store-bought drive is that you cannot prepare the drive using Windows.)
