Question:

Can I use demi permanent hair color to get brown hair?

I have relaxed my hair a month ago and it is naturally black. I wanted to get highlights but my salonist advised against it because my hair is very damaged. Instead she suggested a demi perm color. So I chose a light brown color. But my hair color did not change at all!! It is still pitch black. Is it possible to get a brown color from a demi perm?

  1. A demi permanent color is a deposit only color, which means that it will only add color, not lift color. The most it will do to your dark hair is change the tone. For instance if you did a red demi color, it will give your hair a red tint. In order to lighten your hair you would need a color with a peroxide in it, but it is strongly advised not to use that with relaxed hair. Listen to your stylist, and don't use anything permanent, unless you want to damage your hair more.

  2. you cannot make your hair a lighter color with Demi-Permanent hair color. Demi-Permanent means thats its Deposite only, meaning No-Lift.
