I mean since a digital camera can see the light from a remote control, would hooking about 10 infrared diodes from radio shack to a battery allow my camera see in absolute darkness??

  1. Yes, but it will probably take a lot more than 10 tiny diodes.

The problem with this is, that the camera deliberately filters off infrared light, so only a small portion hits the sensor. So if you want it to see as bright as in broad daylight, you need a very powerful infrared source. But technically yes. I'm not sure if it will be able to autofocus and meter properly though, so you may have to go manual...

    LEM.

  2. Try a small maglite. Shine it on the subject lock the focus then turn it off and shoot.
