Can I use mastercard in egypt ATM machines?

I want to put some of my holiday money on to my pay as you go mastercard but need to know if the ATMs accept it first

Yes but there may be charge depending on which bank you use and you may get a poorer exchange rate, also notify your bank that the card will be used in Egypt.

Most credit cards are accepted internationally and if they have the appropriate logos, can also be used in ATM's abroad. For example, if it has the Cirrus or Plus logo (or both) you'd be able to use it abroad. It's also a good idea to call your card's hotline to inquire about using your card at ATM's in Egypt. You'll actually need to inform the bank of your intention to use your card overseas before your trip so the bank will know not to stop any transactions you enter into while out of the country.

NO NO NO...I know this one for sure!..Pre paid mastercard and Visas are NOT accepted in Egypt ATMs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have had nightmare experience in this! Even if you have a bank account at Citibank or HSBC in the USA it will not work in Egypt until you open an Egyptian account and wire the money into the new account---even though it is the same freaking bank company......Sorry People but banking here sucks for travelers..the same problem exists for Barclays in UK when you use a Barclays ATM here it thinks you are accessing an Egyptian Account and doesn't work from ATMs......If you are in a jam your embassy will make emergency wire transfers for you but this is exspensive and to be avoided. Please Please verify all banking info before traveling...twice! and leave power of attorney with someone in USA in case they need to transfer credit for you.

Me and many of my American /Euro friends who live here in Egypt have had difficulties with this. By the way if you want to open an account in American dollars in Egypt it requires aproval from the Minister and a minimum deposit of 3,000$US or 5,000$ US depending on the bank.
