Question:

Can I use my B1/B2 visa even if it has an annotation stating that it's for my company's training?

I had a visa that will expire on March of 2008 and I'm planning to visit my aunt this Christmas. My dilemma is that my US visa has an annotation stating that it's for my company's training. But my visa is a B1/B2 and for multiple entry. Do I need to apply for a new visa or can I use my current visa for tourist purposes? Help please...

  1. you need to apply for a new visa.thats the problem with visas with annotation you enter the us only with that indicated purpose.

  2. No, you can't.  Your visa was adjudicated and issued on the basis of your application which stated that you were going to the US for (apparently ongoing) company training.  While you may include personal vacations to the US, it must be in conjunction with your training.  If you do not want to risk having your visa canceled (and not getting a future one), being turned back, losing the price of your airplane ticket, and ruining your visit, you will need an unrestricted visa - the fact that you were already issued a visa is a good sign that you would be issued another one.  NOTE:  a non-immigrant visa is valid for presentation at a US port of entry up until the day it expires.

  3. Usually you can re-enter 6 months before your visa will expire. Sometimes you'll get lucky or unlucky with the immigration at the airport. Who in charge to let you enter and staying in the USA are the immigration at the airport and embassy only grant you visa. If you doubt and don't want get problem then read the rules on us embassy website. You will find the updated immigration rules.
