Can I use my HSA account to pay for my fiances medical bills?

We are no married, we will be this october, we live together and have lived together for 3 months, we have a son.

  1. You can't. Well, actually when you get married you can start paying for them.


  2. Until you are married, you cannot.   The HSA account covers your own expenses, and that of your legal dependants.  Your son's bills would be, but not the fiance.

  4. Read your Contract .. it will state quite clearly who is covered (and for what and when).

  5. Assuming that your employer handles reimbursement to you of charges incurred and paid, they simply won't reimburse you for medical expenses incurred other than for yourself.  Medical bills always state the name of the person who received the services.  As soon as a name other than yours or your son's appears, they will refuse to reimburse you.
