I am a complete computer novice so any help is much appreciated. I have my PC connected to the router with a cable and my laptop connects wirelessely. I was wondering can I transfer files to and from both computers through the router. If I can how do I do it, and if I can't, what do I need to do this. I am currently burning files on to a dvd and this is taking ages. Thanks.

  1. Yes, you need to use the Network Setup Wizard.

I have the same router as you, and currently have more than a laptop & PC!!

  2. Yes: Run the network setup wizard on both machines (set up a small or home office network in 'networks'), ensuring file & printer sharing is on, they both use the same domain name & different computer names - job done!

Anything you put in your 'shared documents' folder will be accessible on the other machine.

  3. You have to understand that PC networks using wireless routers are actually a radio network.  The router is a radio and the adapter is a radio, so they send radio signals back and forth.  A radio signal or a cable is a thousand times faster than burning them on a CD and physically moving them.

Read up on shared folders and look in Network Places in Control Panel.   You're smart.  You will figure it out.

  4. simple answer is yes but you need to setup your lap for a network and create sharing folders I can go into more detail if you need it email me

  5. Yes, it is possible, just make a shared folder.

Read the following on how to do this:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.asp...

In my experience moving files over a network is slower then burning them to a dvd.

Using a USB or external hard drive to place the files on and then connecting it to the other computer afterward, and getting the files from that might be faster.

  6. set them both up for "file and printer sharing". make sure they are both in the same workgroup. connect both of them to the internet and then copy over the files via "my network places"
