Can I use my airline miles and still attain gold status?

I am almost to Gold Status for the year which is 50K miles, but I want to use my miles to purchase a flight. If I currently have 40k miles and the flight is 25K miles, will I now have to get 35K miles to attain Gold status or still 10k after I purchase the ticket?

Thanks for your help!

  1. Your status is independent of your rewards.

As said before in 10K you will be Gold.

  2. You don't specify which airline you're asking about, but for virtually all airlines, redeemable miles and elite qualifying miles are not the same thing.  Spending down your redeemable mileage bank will have zero bearing on the qualifying bank -- in other words, you'll still only need to get 10,000 miles by the end of the qualifying period to hit your status.

  3. No, you'll still only need the 10,000 miles. When you use your miles they are not deducted from the amount needed to attain elite status within the year.
