Question:

Can I use my visa as schengen?

I'm in a quite complicated situation. I am from a non-EU country, but study in a EU country which from January first becomes a Schengen country. I own a temporary residence visa, valid for a year (until june 2008).

My question is, whether I will be able to travel to Schengen countries using this visa, i.e. without changing it? I've looked on different sources, but found quite contradictory information...

Thanks in advance

  1. If you are traveling overland you should have no problems but if you fly I think you will have to change it.

They should update it into a Schengen visa for free.

  2. if you are in possession of a schengen visa, you may travel to all countries who are already within the schengen zone, if you have a residency in any of the countries within the schengen zone, you do not need a visa, you will need you residency card from the country in which you reside,

come back and tell the country where you are, and from which country you are from?i will check back with you.

    ps:

i had forgotten to put you in my memories questions, sorry; i had to look for you,

until the country you are in?Slovenia,  is not in the schengen zone, you may not travel without a visa asked at the embassy of which you want to travel,

you will need to ask for a schengen visa,  January 2008 you may do so, but you have to have a residency card from the country where you are residing(Slovenia) first,to prove that you are allowed to travel, within the schengen zone, any more questions? come back, this time i did put you on my memories questions

  3. If the country you are residing in stops issuing a visa of that particular country because the country is becoming a EU country only then can the schengen visa be issued. If that country is to issue schengen visas you will need to change the visa to a schengen visa and then travel freely to the list of schengen visa signatories. But the country you are residing must stop issuing its own visa and issue a schengen visa only then it is possible.

  4. Inquire at the embassy where you were granted the visa whether it will be used in other Schengen countries.
