  1. If it's an old system what have you got to lose?

  2. They have kits to convert the R12 system to 134. Follow the directions.

  3. You can convert most systems to R-134A, some , like most Chrysler's, need only the receiver/ dryer and new oil in the system. Some vehicles like Ford and GM also need a new o*****e tube to meter the refrigerant correctly, Depends on how long you want the system to work, some suggest all the rubber hoses be replaced w/ barrier type hoses that will contain the new refrigerant, as R-134A is "smaller" and will leak thru the hoses made for R-12.

For the most part all the left over oil in the system (oil from the R-12 system) will become inert, and settle in the lowest place in the system, the old refrigerant, should be recovered and recycled, but if the system has lost all the R-12, well it turns to a gas and escapes into the atmosphere where it destroys the ozone layer, that's why it was phased out.

  4. IF ITS R12 YOUR TALKING ABOUT,IF YOU FLUSH THE SYSTEM OUT AND BUY THE CHANGE OVER KIT,IT MAY  NOT LOCK UP THE COMPRESSOR,BUT MORE TIMES THAN NOT WHEN YOU USE THE SAME SYS. FOR R12,YOU ALWAYS ENCOUNTER A PROBLEM W/R134A. THEY DO STILL MAKE A SUBSTITUTE FOR R12/////409A HOWEVER ITS KINDA EXSPENSEIVE.

  5. I used 134a in my car that came out with r12 and didn't do anything. Just added the 134a and it has worked great.

  6. Oh h**l no!!!!...    The R-12 needs to be removed by a licensed recovery technician (by law anyway), the system accumulator driers/drier strainer need to be replaced, as well as the the compressor oil, the system O-rings, and servicing ports.  If the refrigeration system is not properly flushed before the conversion, it will create a tar-like residue and ruin your entire AC system.  It is serious and complex stuff.

  7. it works great.....try to get out all of the old freon that you can....carefully following federal laws of course....get a conversion kit from somewhere like autozone....the fittings are different and you will have to s***w a adapter on the valve on the low pressure side!...good luck!
