Can I use regular detergent in an HE Washing machine?

I just had mine delivered today and the guy told me I can only use HE detergent (as he handed me into for Tide). Is this just a sales gimmick or can my regular concentrated Era work just fine?

  1. ~~I had a yearly cleaning and the repairman told me he could tell I was using regular detergent (I heard it was fine but just cut the use in half the amount you normally use). Then he showed me the various things the regular soap builds up on. I was amazed, so basically you wear out your bearings and drum stuff using regular soap; it just isn't formulated right. I switched to Kirkland "HE" (Costco brand) detergent and yesterday I had my annual cleaning and NO soap build up. Long story short, the washers are expensive and we want to get as many years as we can out of them. It's worth getting the HE soap and if you belong to Costco, it's actually cheaper than the regular soap that are name brand.~~

  2. Read the machine instruction manual, it must suggest powders or liquids you could use.

  3. u can use regular laundry soap but the guy at sears told me that if u do the laundry soap will act like concrete on the washers pump dont think u want that. but u should always use he laundry soap at all times.  gain and tide and wisk and cheer and All are jsut a few of the laundry soaps that are he.  it dont matter about the fabric softner or bleach .
