Question:

Can I use regular felt for Pool table felt installation?

I picked up a table for free, and thought I might replace the felt to make it look better. I have the table disassembled already and it would be easy. Can I use felt from a fabric store for the table or does it have to be 'pool table' felt?

  1. Nope. They are two totally different matierials.

  2. Absolutely not. I know a guy that thought he was gonna save some money by using regular felt. It was a total disaster. He liked the look of the red felt so that's what he used. Not only was it the slowest playing table ever but the red color came off onto everything. The balls , the players hands , the cue sticks , everything. Get ahold of your local pool hall or billiards retailer and have some good pool table cloth installed by a professional, you won't regret it.

  3. I recommend getting like a "Simonis" pool table cloth because its also reversable. It will make it a speedier table. Get someone who is qualified to put the cloth on.

  4. Sorry, but no, felt from a fabric store will not work. It is a completely different material. Honestly, the cloth for a pool table is not actually felt. Its a wool. if you are looking for an inexpensive cloth, try champion cloth. There are companies on line that will sell it to you with free shipping and two boxes of chalk. I believe they may even give you directions on recovering it. Be very careful with the rails When you try to remove the cloth from the rails there is a thin piece of wood (feathering strip) which holds the cloth on. You want to be very very careful removing this so that you can reuse it. The rails will be the hardest part. If you haven't done this before, you might want to consider hiring someone to recover and install the table for you, but that is just a suggestion.

  5. Regular Felt will go out of Shape, so don;t do this.

Its best to buy from a Company manufacturing Billards and Pool Tables.
