Because the sawdust is really annoying and messy and is always kicked around everywhere all over the house.

  1. I use Yesterday's News for my rabbit, it's a paper pellet cat litter that is actually pretty popular with rabbit owners.

  2. I don't reccommend sawdust as it can cause respiratory ailments in rabbits.

I use pine shavings that I get from the local Tractor Supply. It's about $6 for a huge bag and would last forever for a single pet rabbit- definitely a deal.

Another option are the pine pellets, which are a horse bedding and can also be found at TSC. They are also relatively inexpensive and VERY absorbant, they're great.

Other options are Carefresh, Yesterday's News, shredded newspaper. But in my experience, they are all very costly and not very effective.

  3. Carefresh is much better: http://www.rabbit.org/journal/1/liver-di...

Or get a litter box and just put seagrass mats in the cage part.

  4. There are plenty of alternatives for bedding for small animals, there's Care Fresh that is like a very soft type bedding that is used for most hamsters, guinea pigs and ferrets, so there's not reason why you can't use it for Rabbits, there's also another type called Kaytee Soft Sorbent Lavender Scented Bedding but will probably be kicked out just like the sawdust.  I would recommend Care Fresh it's not as messy as sawdust.  I've attached a page of bedding from PetsMart.

    Hope this helps.

  5. I Would use hay, Saw dust might cause breathing problems for the rabbit. You can go to a Pet Store and pick up Bags of Pine shavings or Cardboard shavings, it will be healthy for them and not be as messy

  6. i used hay for my rabbit, they love it!

  7. Haha, I know exactly what you mean!  My boyfriend and I have a bunny named Spuff and what we buy for him are shredded up egg cartons, not the styrofoam ones but the other kind.  Its by the bunny food and stuff at Wal-Mart and comes in a bag and you can just tear it open and put it in their cage.  It's good at neutralizing the odor also, and doesnt get all over the house either.  It's exactly what you need I think!

  8. you can use newspaper or straw!

  9. There's these wood pellets that they use in the bottom of horse stalls.  I used to use the sawdust and we had to change it every other day.  With this stuff we have to clean them once a week.  They have an oder control in them.  Their called Mallered Creek but there are other brands.  Just go to a local feed store that sells horse bedding and ask if they have them.

  10. I have found pine shavings form Petco to be the best alternative for bedding.
