Question:

Can I use synthetic oil for Jetta 2001?

I have a Volkswagen Jetta 2001 GLS. I usually use regular oils (Pennzoil) which work for 3000 miles. I was wondering if synthetic oils, which work for up to 5000 miles, are compatible with my car's engine.

Thanks,

k

  1. Your car was engineered to use synthetic oils ONLY!!! You should prepare the engine by using an engine desludger to remove the deposits that ALL regular oils leave behind. Then use Pennzoil Platinum, which cleans out all the rest of the garbage in your engine, including the oil pressure relief valve, the turbo bearings (if you have any) and all the oil passageways in your lifters, e.g. When the oil appears to be brown or thick, change the oil again.  This time, either continue with the Pennzoil Platinum, or use Mobil One or ELF oil.  They will state CLEARLY on the oil container that it meets or exceeds VW, Audi specs. USE THESE PRODUCTS ONLY!!!!!!!! I have had 5 VW/Audi products, and I know wherof I speak (or write). DON'T USE CASTROL unless it is made to European specs!!!!! The products usually sold at the "quick lube" lack most of the spec's required to continue your warranty. Keep records. I got in the habit of changing oil only when the oil appears dark or unusually thick,  In other words, for the most part, once a year regardless of mileage. Doing this will prevent sludge build-up in the PCV system, since a "good" synthetic will not make harmful rubber rotting vapors that cause power robbing deposits to form. If you have the 2.0 engine, make sure that the PCV breather and it's hoses are ABSOLUTELY clean and free of sludgy build-up.  Your car will LOVE you back, forever!!! Happy motoring!!!

  2. Mobil one,or castrol

  3. How many miles are on it? Many manufacturers don't recommend making the switch to synthetic oils if your vehicle has more than about 50,000 miles. Look at the oil container for any warnings regarding the switch. If your Jetta has more than 50,000 miles, you might consider a change to a High Mileage oil. They have a special additive package tho help condition seals and reduce oil consumption. I use Valvoline High Mileage in all my vehicles, even my  newest one, a'99 f-250 Super Duty, has over 150,000 miles. I know that Pennzoil has a high mileage oil too, check them out.

  4. I use Mobile 1    5w 30 in my 2000 VW Cabrio Turbo, you will be just fine doing changes using synthetic @ 5k intervals

  5. its a 7 year old car

its not used to synthetic and will most probably just burn it
