when I first bought my XPS M1210, it originally came with back up CDs including a Re-installation of Windows Vista Home Premium, Re-installation of Dell Portable Computer Software, webcam software, Dell Media Direct software, and hardware restoration CDs. I justbought a new hard drive, separate from Dell, that does not come pre-loaded with Windows Vista, and I was wondering if I can use these CDs to install Vista on the new HDD? And if I can is there a specific order I should install them?

I dont want to accidently damage my new Hard drive so I want to make sure I install everything correctly. Thank you.

  1. Yes . you can restore the system to the new hard drive.

just make sure the the new hard drive has the same or more store capacity that the old one and set it up as booting  drive..

I had done it with xp in a emachine computer.

You will not damage the hard drive by installing software on it  many people even believe that spyware or viruses will damage the hard drive. that is far from the true . when viruses  install itself in your computer it makes the hard drive not accessible in a way you want it.. that same is true for any software that is installed in any hard drive. Software can not damage hardware, only make the data inaccessible.

I have re-vive that people thought it was damage har drive, all it took was to restore the MBR and then reformat the hard drive.

some hard drive makers like segate offer Free software to help you transfer your computer system files to the new hard drive.

    Good Luck!
