Question:

Can I use the clean-out at the bottom of my vertical stack to connect a rear outlet toilet?

There is a roughly 4-inch clean-out spur at the bottom of my vertical sewer stack in my basement to which I would like to attach a toilet. I want to use a rear outlet toilet so that I don't have to bust up my foundation. I realize that the toilet will have to be raised (anyone know how far a toilet has to be from a vertical stack in Minnesota?) but I don't mind that. Can I do this? What are the downsides? Any suggestions?

  1. you could replace your single Wye cleanout with a double Wye w\cleanout preserving your exising cleanout and allowing connection of the toilet.

  2. Number one:The the clean out is there for a specific purpose. If you connect a toilet to it you defeat that purpose. Also, the possibilities of of having sewerage back up into the toilet are significant.

  3. If you put a toilet on the clean out you will lose a lot of the vent's function

A better and not too expensive is the support cut the vent buy a rubber union with a Y and run a seperate pipe to your toilet.

It's a bit of work but you'll save yourself a lot of headachs in the long run

  4. i don't know about minnesota rulls but

if the vent it going all the way outsied it shoudnt make a defrens the vent it to get red of the gases
