Can I use the internet on my AT&T tilt with a t mobile sim?

now I just unlocked my AT&T tilt and put in a tmobile sim card and the phone works fine but it says that it won't connect to the Internet for an unknown reason. What the heck?

I am in Canada so I cannot get AT&T service up here. However based on all the questions and problems that are posted in the HOCKEY section about at&t , I would never get service through them if I did have to return to the states.(god forbid, I would ever have to return.)
