Can I use thinset between tiles in the shower wall, instead of grout?

I almost finish installing the ceramic tile on the bathroom shower wall. I understand the next step is to install the grout between the tiles then seal it up. Just wonder if I can use the thinset, instead of grout. Thanks.

  1. Not a good idea. No made for constant water contact Use grout.

  2. the thinset goe nasty quickly. it changes color ,does not stay white or grey. goes to a yellowish cast.but you can use plain old cement. thats what grout is made from. wet wall grout is just plain cement. dry wall has a retarder in it.

  3. go with grout.  that's what grout is meant for.  you'll play h*ll trying to get thinset smooth in the joints of the tile.  it's very sticky and it will streak and just be gnarly.  grout your tile then seal the grout with the sealer of your choice.
