Question:

Can I use this idea in my book?

Hey!

So for my book, one of the main characters dies (because he failed to achieve something) and is therefore, spared/killed. He comes back to life, but only because something was done about it. Like, other characters discovered the truth, and were able to bring him back.

My book is fantasy, but because the lion, the witch and the wardrobe has Aslan resurrecting, does that not mean one of my characters can die and then come back to life. It's not a sacrifice, the idea itself is completely different.

Thanks :)

  1. If it's fantasy, then anything that deals with the supernatural can happen. I'm pretty sure that reseurrection falls under that category lol. Good luck with your book.

  2. I actually didn't immediately think of Aslan. I thought of Pirates of the Caribbean. Then I thought of Lord of the Rings. Either way, the idea is unoriginal. You can use it, just be sure to add some originality to your idea.

    Good luck writing!!!

  3. Narnia (and i guess you could argue Harry Potter) did that for religous reasons. if ur doing just pure fantasy i think its fine, cause CSLewis didnt invent resurrection

  4. I think it'll be fine with you doing the resurrecting thing.

  5. You, and everyone else in the world is free to write about whatever they please. There are a lot of the same topics floating around, and it just updates a story when you shed a new light on the subject, or write in a creative way to make your "resurrection" different. I'm sur eyour characters have different aspirations, and personalities, and the way you stage the coming back to life will ultimately change the way a person views it.

Go ahead! Take a crack at it. It's like people who invent things, someone always comes along and finds a way to better it, or change it in entirety. Alot of my writing topics are based on a range of unoriginal ideas, its the way I write my story that changes how they are read, and interpreted. Good luck! And if you need any help, feel free to contact!

  6. I wouldn't worry about whether your book is like this book and that.

    Just *write* and be happy.

The idea of a character dying and coming back to life later is nothing new. If it makes the book sound good and you can turn it into something special and unique--go for it!

And good luck as always. :0)

  7. i didn't think of aslan either, i thought about Jesus and the coming back to life is a known theme. if you like it go for it.

  8. Okay, NO! CS Lewis does not own the rights to Resurrection and Sacrifice. That part of them was based on the Bible (it says so, too). Besides, that was a very minor part in the whole series.

What you described doesn't even bring to mind TLtWatW at all.

You can totally use that if you wish. I can't imagine why you'd think you couldn't!
