I think Canadian Law allows you to "share" any piece of software through the Internet, whether it is torrent or not. However, what is not allowed is to share serial numbers or licenses to a product.

What that means is that it is not unlawful to download or upload music or movies or ebooks. You can even share software, but not the serial/license.

For example, you can download Microsoft Office through torrent, but since you can not legally get another's serial/license, you will still not be able to use it.
