  1. Traveler's checks should be accepted where ever that credit card is accepted i.e. American express, visa

  2. yes, but use only american express to be safe

  3. Yes you can.

  4. you can use those worldwide

  5. Yes of course. And just an advice: If you go and want to change a check into money, German banks will charge you. Only exception: "Deutsche Reisebank" - this is a special bank which you will find at nearly every station and airport (www.reisebank.de). Also the opening hours are different: Regular banks in Germany have opened from Monday until Friday from 9 am - 4 pm (On Thursdays 9 am - 6 pm). The "Deutsche Reisebank" is opened 7 days a week from 8 am - 6pm or sometimes (on bigger stations) 10pm.

And another thing: If you ever are in an emergency case and need money from abroad (e.g. Canada or the States), the "Deutsche Reisebank" co-operates with Western Union and people can send you money immeately. Also every post-office in Germany (9 am - 6 pm from Mo-Fr, and on Sat 9 am -noon) co-operates with Western Union.

The most accepted credit card here is VISA and Mastercard, though credit-cards are not as common as in North America. We in Germany still prefer to pay cash.

If you need any more information, just let me know :-)
