I had an accident the other day, and i know technically i'm at fault even though i don't think i am. But if the other party wants their car fixed am i allowed to say that used parts are to be used? Or do I have to pay for new parts for a car thats probably 10 years old already?

  1. if they agree to that

  2. ask the owns what they want

  3. If you go through an insurance company they use LKQ parts (like, kind, quality).  They will try to locate parts for that year vehicle.  A 1998 vehicle does not need to have 2008 parts.  If they can't find parts for that year, vehicle could become an 'economical total loss'.

You should save yourself the headache & go through insurance.

  4. You have to make a decision to ask the other party for the situation. The bottom line is no matter new or used, the result will be pretty much the same.

  5. No, new parts, and anything else that might have been damaged that they claim for.  If it was your fault why would they not expect to make out of it, if nothing else you inconvenienced them not vice versa.

  6. The other person's insurance , unless you have insurance, will charge you whatever the estimate is. They will use new parts.

  7. If the other party doesn't object, of course.  If no other parts are available, sure.  Otherwise, I don't see why you should be required to do any less than if insurance paid for it.

  8. Not many auto repair businesses install used parts. You will be paying for whatever they install.

  9. Actually, unless your a certified body shop, you won't be using anything.  The body shop will make those choices, and your insurance will be paying the bill.

  10. someone will give u an estiment of how much you owe the person to fix there car is there a lot of damage done?

  11. Let your insurance handle it. They make the rules. If you aren't going through your insurance, then you have to make a deal withe the other person and you need to negotiate that. If not, then they can call the police and call your insurance company and file a claim against you.

  12. You have to ask them if you can use used parts, if they say no then it's new all the way.
