I have the patch, the putty knife, the sandpaper.....a friend gave me wood filler. Can I use the wood filler in place of spackling? is there a huge difference?

  1. Guess so. Sounds more logical to put wood filler in wood and spackling in drywall.

  2. You Can, but wood filler will be harder to cover with paint where spackling ends up white and a quick paint touchup is all you would need.

  3. I wouldn't.  Joint compound will finish much better than wood filler.  Wood filler is a very good product for wood, but not so much for drywall.  When you paint, the patch will stand out.  Hope this helps.

  4. Depending how big the hole is.  If it is too big then you will have noticacle shrinkage.   Just be careful when you sand.  The wood filler is harder when it dries.
