Can I use wordpress to host a domain that I purchased on another site?

I purchased a domain and hosting from this website recently. Actually, I paid for the hosting, for 1 year, and the domain is yours for life.

I then realised that their hosting and site building software are not as good as wordpress or blogger and now I want to shift.

Two questions:

First, is it possible

Second, how will I access this domain from wordpress or whatever other blog site? How will I prove that I have purchased this domain?

I don't know much about web hosting, I never knew it would get so complicated, so please excuse the lay language!

  1. You have the option to change the server space by changing the dns in respect of your domain in your domain control panel, provided you should have domain control panel details.

I presume that you have designed your website on the website of www.wordpress.com or www.blogger.com.  Therefore, I think it would be better option to opt for forwarding facility of domain to the web address of word press where upon you have designed your website.  For example, if your domain is abc.com and if you have opted for forwarding facility of abc.com to xyz.wordpress.com, then any body writes abc.com in the browser and he would be redirected to xyz.wordpress.com.

This facility can either be achieved from webspace control panel or domain control panel.  If this facility is available in webspace control panel, there will be no charges.  However, there are little charges in domain control panel.

I think the above explanation would help you much.

  2. If you’re going to start your blog at your own domain with different pages, you need a web host providing blog tools.

One of these services is reachable at: http://bluehost-service.atspace.com . Their service is really great and easy to use.

  3. Wordpress offers a premium service called mapping that takes your existing domain and uses it instead of joesblog.wordpress.com. It costs $15/yr.
