Can I vent my portable air conditioner into a crawl space next to my finished basement?

  1. sure can, but you know all the air that is coming out of that air conditioner is all soaked air, like 100 % humidity, so all the insulation under your house will have too much humidity.


  2. Chances are this air will find it's way back into the area you just blew it out of.

  3. You shouldn't do that.  Humidity would cause all sorts of problems, and the heat would rise right back up through the wet insulation like nothing.  How about running it down to the crawl space and then extending it out the side of the house via a dryer-like vent?  Then all the heat and moisture is outside, where it is intended to go!

    Oh, I'd make sure there was a slope in the pipes running towards the vent outside to handle condensed water.

  4. If the crawl space has excellent ventilation direct to the outside, then yes. Be aware that the exhaust from the AC will contain very high humidity with can cause mold growth and damage the wooden structures over time. That's why the only acceptable way to do it is if the space is highly ventilated.
