My sofa stinks, and I Need to wash it. Yet it is made of fur. Can I just throw the fur-covers into the washing machine, without harming them? If not, what is a reasonable alternative?

  1. I would buy one of those small hand held steamers that cleans upholstery.

I would be a little afraid of washing fur....and don't even throw it in dryer if you wash it. Let it hang dry on fence or a wire line you put up.

  2. I'm not sure but you could try doing one and see what happens.

I suspect that you wouldn't want to do them in hot water but instead use just warm and it would probably be better to do a gentle short wash not using too much soap in the process.

  3. No, you can damage it.  Dry clean only.

  4. Although I no longer have it, when I owned a rabbit fur jacket I seem to remember the recommendation was to have it dry cleaned.

  5. If it's fake fur then it'll be fine.

Use the machine and set it at a low temperature and I suggest not to use the dryer.

    Hang it dry instead :)
