Hi,

I already know that if I use a HD set top box with a standard defintion TV, I won't be getting HD quality

What I wanted to know is would the set top box allow me to watch HD specific channels, regardless of what TV I've got?

Cheers,

  1. No you cannot.  Even if you connect your HD box via the lowest output the box has, the box decodes it as a high definition source. It will not Downscale it to standard def(480p) as it would be trying to display a high resolution picture on a low resolution tv. You'll only be able to watch the standard definition channels and when you try to view a high definition one, you'll probably only get sound and get a blank screen. You'll have to upgrade to a high definition tv if you want to take advantage of HD exclusive channels.

  2. Nope you can't.

Think of it as this a computer has RAM,Video Card, processor and so on.Which are different and the more they are (mb,GHz and so on) the more software can run.Same with TV's if you don't have HD it won't work or it may hurt you're TV.Or there will be no difference and it's normal for you to have figured this one by you're self I mean come on why did they invent HD TV.

    But ya you can't.

  3. No your tv will go all screwy

  4. Yes.

  5. I'll make it plain and simple. NO. Because standard def TV's do not have HDMI Input's and Component cable input's. So NO.
