Can I watch before Rurouni Kenshin: Reminiscence before the TV series?

I've seen about 75 episodes of the Rurouni Kenshin episodes (when they aired on Cartoon Network). However, I've heard that the OVAs are even better and am interested in watching them. Should I finish the TV series first? or is it fine if I finished the OVAs first? Thank you in advanced ^_^.

  1. It would be okay for you to see the first OVA, Samurai X: Trust and Betrayal (or Rurouni Kenshin: Reminiscence), because it's about Kenshin's past and his time as the Battousai.

I would hold off on the second OVA, Samurai X: Seisouhen (or Rurouni Kenshin: Reflection) because it's a conclusion to regular series, though it is different from the manga~

  2. Eh, well the OVAs (which the mangaka had no involvement in) aren't even really closely related to the anime series, so it would be fine to watch it now if you wanted. They relate more to some of the plots in the manga (well, at least Trust and Betrayal does. Reflections/Reminiscence is a supposed "sequel" to the manga, according to its creators.)

  3. hmm... i recommend you watching the OVA when Kenshin Rurouni was young. Then the TV series (up until around episode 64, before they arrive at home should be the last one***). Then the OVA of Kenshin when he and Kaoru are old.

*** From 1-64 (162 - 164, sorry forgot) is based on the manga, the episodes afterwards are NOT based on the manga, I believe. The original directer didn't have the manga finsihed at that time, so the other people? went and made their own story.

That is what i heard from my friends.

  4. i'd say finish the series. cause the ova's arent completly related to the series but they are good too and ur only 20 eps away from finishing anyway. i've seen all series eps and one ova finish the series then start the ova's
