  1. The two satellite cables on the back of the receiver labeled as tuner 1 and tuner 2 is included in the standard installation and should have been connected. Depending on the message on the screen is what troubleshooting directv customer service can do. I have a dvr and can watch live and record at the same time. If you find you only have the one cable Directv normally schedules someone to come back out and fix it.

  2. only if you payed for the double line to come into the dvr.  if you have only one line then no you cant.  you can record and watch what you've recorded already.  get the second line; i have it and its great.

  3. In addition to the answers above if for whatever reason your installer did not run the 2 lines then it's fairly simple to do yourself.  Just follow the cable back from your DVR to the splitter.  If there is an open output jack not being used simply plug one end of the cable into it and then run it ti the Tuner 2 of your DVR.

If there are already 2 lines being run try resetting your DVR by pushing little button by your access card.  I moved mine outside to watch some DVR shows and when I brought it back in I had to reset it in order for it to recognize both lines.

  4. You can, as long as you have two lines going into the back of the receiver. The installer might have only installed one line going into the back of it. Check to see if there's two cables going into the back of the receiver. Should be labeled Tuner 1 and Tuner 2. If both are installed, call Directv customer service. There might be something wrong with your installation.

  5. The installers are bad about not saying anything when they are there.  The customer satisfaction person called and I told her they didn't put the 2nd line into the dvr and she said to call them and they have to come back out and do that - it should have been done.

Usually, they run cables from the dish to a connector below but just don't run the 2nd line from there to the tv - you can go outside and check if they did this.  If you're handy and can route it into the house, all you need to do is run a cable from the connector to the 2nd input into the dvr and it's done.

Otherwise call them and make them do it.

  6. no you cant
