Can I watch videos on an tv with sd card inputs?

my dad is considering buying an hdtv soon and the one he's looking at has sd card inputs on it. I know that the purpose of these slots are for viewing pictures, but if i put videos onto an sd card, could i watch the videos on the tv?

The best answer to your question is "it depends", cuz you didn't tell us the TV model. It all depends. Mine is a Philips, and it offers a USB port where you insert a flash disk. However when it can play pictures and music on that, it doesn't do movies. So I would refer to the TV manual to get an accurate answer.

You know why it's more difficult to play videos than pictures and music? Cuz videos come with more complex codec. That SD slot may only be used for pictures, music, plus firmware upgrade.
