You most certainly can. To dine with the captain really means you are going to be critiqued by the other passengers so wear what you feel good and s**y in.

The only criteria is that you dress nice on that night...the color of your dress is up to you (I wore dark brown on one cruise, and dark purple on another), and you may wear formal length, cocktail length, or a dressy pantsuit.

You can wear whatever colour of dress you wish at a Captains dinner. But here are two hints. One, research the cruise ship and line you are taking on your voyage. Cunard is the most formal while Carnival is more relaxed. Look at the brochures to take your cue. But more important, look at photographs of the dining room. What colours are the chairs, carpet, and surroundings. You don't want to match a drape or the colour of the fabric on your chair. For this reason, basic black with dynamite accessories is always safe, but if you do the research, you can pull of the right colour as others at the table may very well be playing it safe in black. If there is a grand staircase, dress to make every head turn your way!
