Question:

Can I wear monthly contact lenses for more than a month?

I currently pay direct debit to get contact lenses every month, but I only wear them twice a week. In effect, I'm only wearing them for less than a third of a month. It seems a waste of money.

Is it safe for me to keep using them for longer (and so buy online when I need them - obviously getting regular checkups to check my eyes are okay etc).

My optician has mentioned that it's okay to keep old pairs as 'backups' to reuse when necessary but when I've asked about length of useage she clams up (perhaps because her company is making unnecessary money out of me).

  1. no you should never use any lenses after the expiry date. 1 or 2 weeks won't do any harm or difference but longer could be damaging as they are the source of lot of bacteria.

Unfortunatelly this is the rule I don't follow and nothing happened to me, however i sort of feel when my lenses are out of date. My eyes are more sensitive then.

In your case daily contacts would be an answer. Try Johnson&Johnson. Very good.

  2. ya

  3. I where mine longer then till there bothering me or get blury mine are 2 week ones but i where them for like a month or till they get blury and bothering me

just wash them every day takethem out at night

  4. Monthly contact lenses mean just that, as in you can wear them for 30days, it does not mean you have to bin them after a month. Just change the solution every week.

  5. You can wear them. I have 2 week lenses and only wear them once in awhile and then a month later I will put them on again. I wear them til they start to be uncomfortable or cloudy. The eye docs just want to make money.

  6. no never use the lense for more than the time limit.

  7. Yes I used to go to an actual contact lens specialist for my lenses and he said that you could keep them for longer than a month as long as you look after them properly.  He never told me how long exactly but I used to keep wearing mine until it seemed like they were done, they usually went a bit cloudy or lost their shape after about 3 months.

  8. Agreed they don't suddenly self destruct at 30 days. However there is a progressive increase in risk that the surface degenerates, which may scratch the cornea, and also that they fail to remain sterile. It is much like the cleansing solution, which should, like all open eye drops, be discarded after 30 days as there is an increasing risk that it may not be sterile.
