Can I wear my disposible contact lens in the ocean? What are the risks?

Any surfers out there that paddle out with contacts in?

  1. Two types of risks: one, they may be washed away easily (and for good)

    two, you may get bacteria into your eyes and get an eye infection.

    That's rare but happens.


  2. you shouldn't swim with contact lenses unless your goggles remain firmly in place because any water passing over your open eyes will immediately wash the lenses out, probably never to be seen again.

  3. They can float off or blow off if you get a wave in the eye.

  4. I wouldnt, they might slip out or get damaged somehow. Or wear goggles at least.

  5. You had better not wear contact lenses in the ocean / water. If you insist to do it, wear goggles at least. Otherwise they will be lost easily.

    I am not sure if they will hurt your eyes when wave hits you.
