Can I wear these boots in Rugby?

I play Rugby Union at an amateur level and was thinking of getting new boots for the new season. I heard that ref's will not let you play with certain types of boots.

I am allowed to wear these boots? And can someone explain what rugby boots I can and can't wear?

  1. Here you go, probably way too information, directly from www.irb.com

    http://www.irb.com/lawregulations/regula... (regulation 12)

    More info is needed.

    Player point of view:

What position you play and how old you are. If you play with the forwards I would recommend you get Rugby boots with removable studs. If you are a back and will not be in a scrum (obviously) these are fine. If you are a youth player these maybe fine for a back or forward because there isn't any driving in a scrum.

Referee stand point and checking the law book.

There is no toe cleat and the blades do not seem to be sharp. I would let you play

  2. Theres nothing wrong with blades, in fact I prefer them. I've use bladed boots for the past 4 seasons, and I won't go back to studs. Bladed boots are better for running around in, and you're not going to lose your studs

  3. Listen to JCH.

Ideally you would want boots with removable studs. This way you can change your studs for the playing conditions. Long studs for wet muddy days and short studs for hard fast surfaces.

  4. Yes you can play in these boots, there's no problem with plastic or metal blades....

the ref will run his hand over your studs before the game if he thinks there's a problem with them.

I've worn blades for the past few seasons and had absolutely 0 problems.

    happy playing

  5. You cannot wear plastic stoods or blades as they can cut people very easily, I've seen it happen, you will not be allowed to play if you have plastic studs.

  6. Blades are generally frowned upon, due to their ability to cut. The F50.8 boots would probably be ok, although that flat stud on the rear seems strange.

If you get a pair of normal stud boots, not blades, and no fancy stuff, you will be fine.

Check out Adidas 915 III, Adidas Flanker III, or puma Esito boots. These are just a small selection, but you will have no probs with these.
