Question:

Can I work in Ireland with a UK Student Visa?

I currently have a UK Student visa that allows me to work 20 hours/week during school and 40 during vacations. I was hoping to live in Ireland for the summer. Since both are members of the EU, would I be entitled to work in Ireland as well? Are there any other types of visas that I could obtain to work over the summer? (I'm from the US).

  1. If you are a member of the EU then you can work in Ireland.

However if you are from outside the EU then you will need a valid visa and work permit which you can apply for through your local embassy.

  2. No, you will have to re-apply for an Irish visa.

Northern Ireland will be covered by your British visa, but not Ireland (aka the Republic of Ireland).

  3. you could work in northern Ireland

    it's still the UK

  4. You could proberly work in Northern Ireland but I doubt that you could work in the Republic. Once your visa runs out you may be able to get a working visa for Ireland afterwards so you won't have to go home.

  5. Although UK and Ireland are members of EU each is a sovereign state. Unlike USA where all the states are governed by Washington and despite apparent evidence to the contrary no EU state is ruled from Brussels except Belgium. Contact Irish Embassy to get details.

Norn Iron is part of the island of Ireland but politically is part of th UK. Half the people there consider themselves British
