Can I work with an expired green card?

I haven't been able to work thinking that the green card needs 2 be valid, Now i hear I'm even able to travel outside the us with that expired>

Why didn't you renew your green card on time?  Get it done.

I think that if you are in a foreign country holding green card,then it's your primary responsibility to upgrade the greencard.

Yes, you don't even need a green card to show at work.  A drivers license and a social security card are all you need to fill out your I-9 for the employer.
