I have been wrestling for 6 years, one year on middle school varsity, and this will be my third year on varsity in high school. I weighed about 157 all season, but wrestled 171 rather than 160 because we didnt have any good 171 pounders. I am cutting to 152 to wrestle their this year, and i wrestle for a very prestigious wrestling program in Washington, the Lake Stevens Vikings, who have won state 6 times in the last ten years, and will probably win it again this year for the third time in a row. i myself havent made it to state because i let the stomach flu get to me at Regionals after placing 4th at Districts. i am told i have a very good high crotch and single leg shot, and i am known for either wearing my opponent down enough to pin him or winning by technical fall or by major decision. most of my losses come from making errors that i feel could be fixed with the proper coaching help. i want to wrestle for someone like Northwestern or Johns Hopkins, because those schools have the academic programs i want for becoming a doctor eventually, but i love wrestling and want to continue wrestling until i get my bachelor's degree. is it possible for me to be competitive and wrestle in college despite the fact that i have not won a state title?

  1. They reserve spots for walk on try outs at all colleges and if you are good enough you may even earn yourself a scholarship

  2. Of course! You can try to make the squad as a walk-on, just like in football. All you have to do is give it 100% effort and you'll be fine.

  3.   Yes you  can try out for the team.  Contact the coach and tell him.  You will probably get a tryout.
